Athlete’s Foot is a contagious superficial fungal skin infection of the skin primarily caused by dermatophytes such as Trichophyton rubrum, Trichophyton mentagrophytes, and Epidermophyton floccosum. It typically affects the interdigital spaces, soles, and sides of the feet, and is characterized by:
- Itching, burning, and stinging sensations
- Peeling, scaling, and cracking of the skin
- Inflammation, fissures, and sometimes blistering
- Secondary bacterial infection in severe or untreated cases
This condition thrives in warm, moist environments, often exacerbated by tight shoes, sweating, shared showers, or immune suppression.
Suitable for:
- Adults and teenagers.
- Diabetics (with intact skin; not for use on open wounds).
- Individuals with recurrent fungal infections or resistant dermatophyte colonization.
- Athletes, gym users, and those prone to sweaty feet.
- Antifungal: Direct membrane disruption, ergosterol binding, and spore inhibition.
- Anti-inflammatory: Modulation of cytokines such as TNF-α and IL-6 in localized skin regions.
- Wound healing: Promotes fibroblast activity, re-epithelialization, and collagen support.
- Antimicrobial: Reduces secondary bacterial infection, especially Staphylococcus aureus or Pseudomonas.
- Skin restoration: Supports regeneration of the stratum corneum and epidermal lipids.
The Athlete’s Foot Roll-On (10 ml) by Hadassah Healing Oils is a medicinal-grade antifungal formulation, designed to disrupt fungal colonies, soothe inflammation, and restore skin integrity through topical application. Primary Ingredients
Carrier Oils: Grapeseed Oil, MCT Oil
Essential Oils: Tea Tree, Oregano, Patchouli, Geranium Rose, Lemon, Frankincense
This formula utilizes essential oils with broad-spectrum antifungal, anti-inflammatory, and tissue-regenerative properties, carried in lipid-based oils that support transdermal penetration and barrier repair.
- Tea Tree Oil (Melaleuca alternifolia)
- Key Constituents: Terpinen-4-ol, α-terpineol
- Mechanism: Disrupts fungal cell membrane integrity by increasing permeability and causing leakage of intracellular contents.
- Effect: Inhibits the growth of T. rubrum, T. mentagrophytes, and Candida species. Also reduces inflammation and bacterial co-infections.
- Clinical Note: Studies show it is as effective as clotrimazole in topical applications for tinea pedis.
- Oregano Oil (Origanum vulgare)
- Key Constituents: Carvacrol, thymol
- Mechanism: Disrupts fungal and bacterial cell walls, induces apoptosis in fungal cells, and blocks biofilm formation.
- Effect: Highly antifungal, bactericidal, and effective against azole-resistant strains.
- Clinical Note: Potent against dermatophytes and Candida species, reducing fungal load rapidly.
- Patchouli Oil (Pogostemon cablin)
- Key Constituents: Patchoulol, α-bulnesene
- Mechanism: Inhibits spore germination, reduces oxidative stress in infected tissue, and enhances skin regeneration.
- Effect: Slows fungal replication and soothes inflamed skin. Promotes healing of cracked or scaling areas.
- Clinical Note: Historically used for skin mycoses and acts as both antifungal and dermal tonic.
- Geranium Rose Oil (Pelargonium graveolens)
- Key Constituents: Geraniol, citronellol
- Mechanism: Acts as a cell membrane disrupter for fungi, modulates inflammatory cytokines, and supports skin barrier function.
- Effect: Reduces pruritus, irritation, and fungal growth. Also has mild antimicrobial action against bacteria that can complicate tinea infections.
- Clinical Note: Especially useful in recurrent or inflamed presentations of athlete’s foot.
- Lemon Oil (Citrus limon)
- Key Constituents: Limonene, citral
- Mechanism: Disrupts fungal biofilm formation, inhibits oxidative stress, and increases local circulation.
- Effect: Provides antifungal and mild exfoliating support. Prevents fungal persistence in sweat-prone environments.
- Clinical Note: Useful for maintenance and prevention stages; supports skin detoxification.
- Frankincense Oil (Boswellia carterii)
- Key Constituents: α-pinene, incensole acetate
- Mechanism: Anti-inflammatory through NF-κB inhibition, promotes wound closure and tissue regeneration.
- Effect: Aids in healing of cracked skin and reduces local inflammation and immune hypersensitivity.
- Clinical Note: Assists recovery of skin barrier and prevents post-infection irritation or scarring.
- Grapeseed Oil (Carrier)
- Composition: High in linoleic acid and antioxidants
- Function: Penetrates skin easily, delivers essential oils effectively, and maintains hydration in the skin barrier.
- Benefit: Supports epidermal healing, prevents further skin cracking, and enhances absorption of active compounds.
- MCT Oil (Medium Chain Triglycerides)
- Composition: Caprylic and capric acid esters
- Function: Fast-transdermal absorption supports antifungal activity, and acts as a secondary antifungal agent itself.
- Benefit: Helps spread active oils evenly and deeply into affected skin layers.
Do not use internally.
