Oral health touches every aspect of our lives but is often taken for taken for granted.
One common oral concern is tooth decay, which occurs when foods containing carbohydrates such as milk, soda, cakes and candy are frequently left on the teeth. Bacteria that live in the mouth thrive on these foods and produce acids as a result. Over time, these acids destroy tooth enamel, resulting in tooth decay and other dental concerns.
Over 90 percent of adults ages 20 to 64 have had tooth decay. Some common causes of dental issues include lack of good oral hygiene habits, consumption of processed sugar, a lack of fat soluble vitamins (A, D, E, K) and a deficiency in minerals such as calcium, magnesium and phosphorus.
Essential oils can present some safe, effective options for great oral care.
Follow the oil pulling technique, once a day. Either follow the recipe below or use the ready-made Oil Pulling Mouth Healer.
Oil Pulling Method
Take 1 Tablespoon and swish for about 5 minutes (gradually work up to 10 or 20 minutes), once a day. Don’t do it vigorously since you’ll be doing it for far longer than you are used to and your jaw will get tired. Gently swirl the oil around your mouth and suck it through the spaces between your teeth. Make sure not to swallow any of it. When finished, spit the oil in the dustbin. Don’t spit it in the sink because when the oil thickens after cooling, it may clog up your pipes.
Use for: Cleansing and detoxifying the mouth; assist with the following: tooth decay; restoring tooth nerves, inflammation, heavy metal detoxing; brain fog and cleanses the blood.
Supplement with Vitamins D3, K2, and Magnesium which are essential for building strong teeth and bones.
Mouthwash – add 5 drops each; Peppermint 5ml 10ml and Tea Tree 5ml 10ml to 2 cups filtered water. Mix it in a BPA-free plastic dispenser bottle. Sip and swish around in your mouth, gargle for 30 seconds and spit out. Do not swallow.
Thyme 5ml 10ml helps destroy oral germs; can be a remedy for gum disease.
Clove 5ml 10ml helps relieve oral pain and discomfort.
Peppermint 5ml 10ml has performed better than mouthwash for reducing cavities.
