Axillary breast tissue, also known as accessory breast tissue or ectopic mammary tissue, refers to extra breast tissue located in the armpit (axilla) or along the so-called “milk line” — an embryological line running from the armpit to the groin.
This condition is benign and relatively common, affecting up to 2–6% of women (and occasionally men).
| Feature | Description |
|---|---|
| Location | Usually in the armpit (axilla), occasionally below the breast or along the chest wall |
| Texture | Soft, fatty, or firm lump that feels similar to breast tissue |
| Size variation | Often increases in size and tenderness during hormonal changes (menstruation, pregnancy, breastfeeding) |
| Symptoms | May be tender, painful, or swollen, especially premenstrually or during lactation |
| Cosmetic concern | Can cause visible bulge under arms; discomfort with clothing or arm movement |
During fetal development, the mammary ridges (milk lines) form bilaterally from the armpit to the groin. Normally, all but the breast portion on the chest wall regress.
If a portion fails to regress, accessory breast tissue remains. This residual tissue may include:
Glandular tissue
Fatty tissue
Nipple/areola structures (rarely)
When located under the arm, this is termed axillary breast tissue.

Palpation shows a mobile, soft-to-firm mass in the axilla without lymph node characteristics.
Ultrasound — distinguishes glandular tissue from lipoma or lymph nodes.
Mammography or MRI — confirms breast-type tissue and rules out malignancy.
Same cellular architecture as normal breast tissue.
| Condition | Distinguishing Features |
|---|---|
| Lymphadenopathy | Usually smaller, round, firm, may be tender if reactive |
| Lipoma | Soft, non-tender, fatty lump, no hormonal variation |
| Hidradenitis suppurativa | Painful, inflamed boils due to blocked sweat glands |
| Sebaceous cyst | Smooth, dome-shaped lump, may have a central pore |
| Breast carcinoma | Hard, irregular, fixed mass; may occur within accessory tissue |
If asymptomatic and benign:
Observation with periodic imaging.
Supportive bras/clothing to reduce rubbing or discomfort.
Warm compresses and anti-inflammatory care during hormonal swelling.
Inflammation or mastitis during lactation
Milk secretion (galactorrhea) if lactiferous ducts are present
Cysts or fibroadenomas developing within accessory tissue
Rarely, breast cancer can arise in axillary breast tissue (usually same risk as normal breast)
Adults: Drink 1 capsule daily.
Apply 10 drops over the area daily.
Children between 13-16 years: Drink half a capsule and apply 5 drops over the area daily.
IMPORTANT TO KNOW
All our blends come in a 30ml glass bottle, with a glass pipette and a rubber bulb on top. Don’t forget to buy empty veggie capsules when purchasing an ingestible blend. (Our veggie capsules are now available in 90’s and 150’s).
Never pre-fill capsules for future use, as this will compromise the veggie capsule and melt. Instead, always fill the capsules just before drinking them. (But if there is no other option, only prepare up to 3 days’ supply. You MUST then keep them upright in the refrigerator in a marked container; to know which blend it is filled with.)
Method – open the veggie capsule, then open your blend, squeeze, and release the rubber bulb to draw the oil blend up into the glass pipette dropper. Gently squeeze the rubber bulb to fill the larger part of the open capsule. Close the capsule before drinking it. Dosage is always a full capsule of a specific blend (between 15 to 18 drops) unless otherwise indicated.
If you need to take more than one oil blend per day, spread them throughout the day to assist the body with proper absorption. Never drink more than two capsules of different blends at a time.
It is always good to have a very small snack/fruit before drinking capsules.
