Child Birth Pain
Pain is an inevitable part of giving birth to a child. Contractions are painful, and they will get more intense as the labor progresses. Transitioning is generally touted as one of the most painful times of the process. Thankfully, essential oils can assist with pain relief. The oils for pain during labor are listed, but let’s dive a little deeper into how to use these oils to help decrease pain.

Contractions occurs when the muscles around the uterus tighten and relax. They can occur at any time throughout pregnancy. But “real” contractions only occur when labor is starting. Real labor contractions can be very painful, and the pain will intensify. It usually peaks when the muscles tighten and ease when they relax. The location of the pain varies, but real contractions typically cause a dull ache around the abdomen and lower back. In some women, the pain spreads to the sides and thighs. Labor typically starts with regular, persistent contractions. These cause the cervix to expand in preparation for birth. You can help keep contractions steady and aid in pain relief by using essential oils topically or through diffusing. If using topically, apply over the area of the uterus. Essential oils that may help include black pepper, clary sage, rose geranium, jasmine, marjoram and neroli.
Labor Giving Birth
When your water breaks (start of labor) drink 1 capsule with 2 drops Myrrh 5ml 10ml, 2 drops Clary Sage 5ml 10ml, 2 drops Rosemary 5ml 10ml and fill the capsule with a carrier oil.
Topically apply the Frankincense/Myrrh Blend over the spine, pelvis, and tummy, every hour.
Every hour, also apply the Labor Roll-on over the pelvis and spine and inhale (see below).
Diffuse 2-3 drops of each oil; maximum 10-12 drops in total, at a time, unless otherwise advised.
Bath Oil
A warm bath can go a long way in alleviating pain during labor. The warmth of the water helps to relax the muscles and can ease the pain of contractions. Using an aromatic bath oil can increase these effects. Oils such as lavender, clary sage, jasmine, rose geranium, rose can be of great help here.
Massage Oil
A massage oil can be applied to the mom’s uterus or her lower back to help with pain control. Sweet almond oil or jojoba oil are great options for carrier oils, and clary sage, rose geranium, jasmine, cypress, frankincense, lavender, and rose are all great essential oil options.
